10 Skills Leaders Should Practice Daily

In Leadership by Jason Cortel

People are perpetually in search of a leader worth following. The ability to lead effectively is based on a number of key skills. Leadership roles are all around us, not just in a work environment. They can be applied to any situation where you are required to take the lead, professionally, socially and at home in family settings.

To become the leader that people will want to follow practice these ten effective leadership skills every day:
  1. acting responsibly in social situations
  2. accurately reading the feelings of others
  3. displaying good social judgment
  4. projecting a confident (but not arrogant) self-image
  5. motivating others
  6. getting along with others, including those one doesn’t like
  7. instilling trust and confidence in others
  8. showing flexibility and comfort with divergent points of view
  9. speaking well in front of others
  10. demonstrating social savvy, including respect for authority, rules, and social conventions

Leadership skills won’t be mastered overnight, dedicate time to practice exhibiting them daily. Enlist those around you to hold you accountable to them. As long as you’re open to learning along the way and working with your team on leadership versus dictating to them, people will eagerly signup to follow you on your journey.
