7 Shared Traits - bad boss and mob boss

7 Shared Traits Between a Bad Boss and a Mob Boss

In Working with a Bad Boss by Jason Cortel

Is there a difference between a bad boss and a mob boss? The mob has sales, revenue, interest rates, payment penalties, markets and verticals and a hierarchy. That sounds an awful lot like a typical corporate organization doesn’t it? In the mob if you make your boss mad they destroy you. The mob boss tears you down but never works to build you up. They are not concerned with your development or your future. The only thing that matters to a mob boss is that you make them money, don’t cross them and are a good soldier.

7 shared traits between a mob boss and a bad boss:
  1. A lack of coaching/development
  2. Shows little respect for their employees
  3. Doesn’t seek to understand
  4. Doesn’t care about their employees
  5. Lies to cover up the truth
  6. Will not only whack you but will then dig your grave
  7. Puts themselves first

Bonus trait – does not want to be challenged by those under them.

Based on my list there are no differences between a bad boss and a mob boss with a few exceptions. A bad boss usually isn’t as powerful as a mob boss and a bad boss’s time will come and they will be ousted out of the organization as a direct result of their behavior.

Don’t be a wiseguy or gal and demonstrate these bad boss traits. Be a successful boss. Be a great boss and leave a lasting mark on those who work under you.
