A true leader is someone who develops their team so they can hit their targets and achieve their goals. Usually what we see is a leader who either hits their targets while burning out their team or they build their team but miss their targets. Of the three scenarios the first one is the outcome a true leader should strive for.
A leader who is successful at building up their team but can’t meet targets or goals hasn’t really built their team. How can a team be successful if they aren’t high-performing with their targets? If you find yourself with a great team who is missing the mark on meeting targets get to work instilling goal and achievement traits in them. Building a great team is the harder part of the equation, getting them to want results should come easy.
A leader who uses manipulation and bullying to deliver on their targets and goals is really a dictator. Some would say using those techniques are the best form of motivation but they aren’t. They don’t help your team grow or gain confidence and you may find that you will not be able to hold on to top talent. This type of team building also serves as a distraction for you because most of your time is spent on follow-up and brow beating and less on managing the strategy of growing your business.
