Leaders Find the Balance Between Yes or No

In Leadership by Jason Cortel

What happens when you always say yes to everything that comes your way? You become over committed and perhaps things even start to slip. If you always say no to things you are labeled as someone unwilling to help out or as not stepping up.

You need to be able to balance the yes’s with the no’s in order to preserve your reputation. You should build a solid reputation of being willing and able to help out as well as to complete projects with a high level of excellence. The best way to accomplish that is to find your sweet spot of yes’s and no’s.

Another way to help preserve your reputation is to delegate better. If you find you have taken on too much, make sure the teams you assemble to work on the project will be able to manage the details and to the targets.

Throughout your day ask people who know you if you take on too much or too little. From there you can start to develop a plan to find the balance.
