Provide Sales with Visionary Leadership

One of the most cynical audiences you can lead is sales executives. Being able to provide clear and definitive visionary leadership is critical in leading your sales team to success.

Most sales organizations are front and center when it comes to the primary touch point of your customers. As a result customer, product or service issues affect them first. Your sales team will benefit greatly from having a vision the entire team can set out to fulfill.

The theme for the vision you establish with your sales team should be forcefully expressive and concise. That vision should interlock with the overall vision and strategy of the organization. As the sales leader you must act as an exemplar of the vision once you have outlined and rolled it out to the team. Sales executives tend to watch their leader like hawks to understand what is acceptable or not.

As you start your day, set out to be the exemplar of your vision. During your next sales meeting find ways to reinforce the vision you have established for your sales team. Spend some time reflecting on the first half of the year to validate that your vision is still relevant with how your business or market have progressed. If the vision is no longer relevant re-create it quickly. As leaders we do a great job establishing vision, goals and initiatives at the beginning of the year, but often fail to re-evaluate them to ensure they are still relevant.
